Get Smart! |
Get Smart, a 1960's spy spoof on the James Bond movies, hit television air ways in 1965. It starred Don Adams, as Maxwell Smart-agent 86, and Barbara Feldon, as Agent 99. The Chief was portrayed by vetren charactor actor, Ed Platt. They were all fantastic actors, and had such great chemistry on screen. Together they created those unforgetable agents at CONTROL. What is CONTROL, you ask? Well it is a top secret government organization, representing all that is good and nice, determined to wipe out all that is bad and evil. It can be found in the phone book, listed under "secret organizations." Setting that aside... The show was just plain hilarious. Max and 99 were constantly in battle with the likes of KAOS-a secret organization of evil, determined to take over the world-who produced villians, such as Siegfried and Schtarker, The Whip, Melnick-the smiling killer, Simon the Likeable, Dr. Yes, Bronzefinger, and who could forget The "Craw"?!?{not the Craw, The Craw!} While Maxwell Smart had Dr, Yes and Bronzefinger, James Bond held tight to Dr. No and Goldfinger. Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In! |
It was a show that broke all the rules. From 1968 to 1973, it's zany antics and nonsense catch phrases, were just what an agrivated America needed. There were no limits to who they imitated, who they poked fun at, and no matter who the guest was, they always socked it to 'em! The two hosts, Dan Rowan and Dick Martin, starred along side of this hilarious assortment of delightful ding-dongs: Arte Johnson, Ruth Buzzi, Judy Carn, Henry Gibson, Goldie Hawn, Alan Sues, Jo Anne Worley, Thereasa Graves, Pamela Rodgers, Jeremy Lyod, Byron Giliam and Gary Owens. That is only the original cast.{1968-1970} Later on in the show, some of the best talents left, leaving room for a new cast. In my opinion, when that happened, the show just didn't have the same affect. It was a fast-paced show, with a joke at every turn. At the cocktail party everyone was groovin between jokes and having a wild time. You could always bet your sweet bippy that Tyron would find a new way to sneek a Gotcha on Gladass. No matter what she said, Judy always ended up getting it socked to her, and trying to figure out what Goldie was trying to say when she introduced Dan, was a side-slpitter in itself. The news was always something to look forward to. I always try to guess how the girls are going to present it ahead a time, but they always seem surprise me. Who can forget little Henry Gibson's silly poems? Or Beautiful downtown Burbank's all-clear-signal, Jo Anne Worley? Dick and Dan are always up for laughs. Dan, desprately trying to have a real conversation, with Dick always somehow changing the subject to one of his recent dates, or his invisible Uncle Willard. Uncle Al, the kiddies pal was always a thrill for the wee ones.{if you like to cover your kiddies ears throughout the 2 minute show...} And it didn't stop, even at the credits. The cast, all popping in and out of their little doors on the joke wall is really a scream. And trying to figure out what is really in the script, and what they all just tend to scream out is a real knee-slapper! All of them talking at once, trying to remember what they're supposed to say, or just saying something totally off subject when they can't. And Jo Anne yelling chisel, because she's trying to a word in edge wise. The show is just down right stupid. But that's what makes it so funny. {You can bet your sweet bippy that more on this show is coming soon!} |
